What Are E-liquids?

It doesn’t matter if you call them e-liquids, vape liquids, or vape juices, all these terms refer to the same thing – they’re liquids that fuel your vape kit.

These liquids are formulated with nicotine, flavourings, and a base mix of vegetable glycerine (VG) & propylene glycol (PG). These ingredients are blended in different quantities to create a smooth, enjoyable vaping experience.

E-liquids with a higher VG% produce thicker vape clouds, and a higher PG% enhances flavour and throat hit. Most e-liquids balance cloud production with flavour in a 50/50% VG/PG ratio.

Our nic salt e-liquid and starter e-liquids offer smooth hits with low-wattage devices.

FAQ

Nicotine salts or nic salts, are a form of e-liquid that provide a smoother and faster nicotine absorption time than standard 10ml e-liquid. These liquids are available in 5mg to 20mg.

They’re generally considered the best option for those who have just quit smoking cigarettes. These liquids absorb in the bloodstream quicker than any other kind of e-liquid, providing that instant nicotine hit, so make sure you take your time vaping nic salts.

The main differences between freebase and nic salt e-liquids are:

  • Freebase nicotine e-liquid: These are the most common types of e-liquid. They provide a perfect balance of rich flavour and cloud production. These liquids offer a moderate throat hit, making them great for all kits but perfect for many high-wattage or sub-ohm devices.
  • Nic salts are smoother and more ideally suited for low-wattage devices. These are best suited for MTL kits, which is why they’re popular with pod systems and vape pens. Most disposable devices use nic salts too, so if you’re looking to replace your favourite disposable vapes with a flavoured vape that tastes like a disposable, nic salt e-liquids are best for you. But remember: these liquids are available in 10ml bottles only.

Some can also choose to vape shortfill e-liquids. These are nicotine-free e-liquids with a high VG content. These allow you to mix to your own nicotine strength preference and let you mix e-liquid flavours together! These are best suited for your sub-ohm vape kit and other DTL vape devices. They are available in multiple strengths and sizes.

Shortfill bottles offer extra room for adding nicotine shots to reach their desired nicotine strength and are popular among advanced users for their high-VG formulas, which boost cloud production.

Most shortfill bottles come in a 70VG/30PG ratio. These are ideal for those who prefer to throw dense vape clouds with a smoother inhale. 70/30 VG/PG shortfills are available in a variety of sizes ranging between 50ml, 100ml & 150ml. This way you can stock up on your favourite flavours for ultra-easy refills.

When you’re adding nicotine to shortfills, it’s important to remember to ratio out the e-liquids. For example, adding an 18mg nicotine shot to a 50 ml shortfill will create 60 ml of 3mg e-liquid! Remember: if you combine too much nicotine with too little shortfill liquid, you could create a liquid that’s difficult to vape!

You’ll see these ‘taller, slimmer’ vape bottles in vape shops and other online retailers. Make sure you read the label, though – lots of new vapers make the mistake of trying to vape a shortfill to save money without realising they are nicotine-free e-liquid!

From bold fruit to smooth tobacco and indulgent dessert flavours, Freesmo has the four main flavour groups covered so you can taste the best vape juices for any kit:

  • Fruity flavours. Tropical/berry mixes are amazingly refreshing, especially in the summer.
  • Menthol/mint. Fresh blasts of ice menthol or spicy, sweet aniseed make this one of the cooler flavours! It's perfect for a crisp vape taste.
  • Dessert flavours. These super self-indulgent notes combine dessert classics like vanilla, custard, caramel, and even ice cream! They're definitely for those with a sweet tooth.
  • Tobacco. You can’t get any more timeless than a classic tobacco taste. Tobacco flavours have a smooth, classic experience that makes switching to a smoke-free lifestyle easy.

For new users, we recommend nicotine salts or 50/50 VG/PG e-liquids– this is a great balance that goes easy on the throat and brings out the flavour.

This is also ideal for smaller, lower-wattage devices, so you can fit a 50/50 vape juice blend into any budget!

Nic salts only work best with lower-wattage MTL vape kits.

Using them in high-wattage kits may produce an overly strong hit that can make you feel sickly! If this does happen to you, stop vaping them for a bit of a while and swap out the e-liquid in the tank/pod.

One of the biggest challenges new vapers face is finding their ideal nicotine strength. This is a super important step because it’s the best way to give yourself a bridge over to vaping so you can lead a smoke-free lifestyle for good!

Here’s a broad guide to help you find a strength that’s best for you based on the quantity of nicotine typically found in cigarettes.

Standard e-liquids (per 10ml bottle):

  • 3mg - 5 cigs a day
  • 6mg - 10 cigs a day
  • 12mg - 15-20 cigs a day
  • 18mg - More than 20 cigs a day

For nicotine salts (per 10ml bottle):

  • 10mg - Fewer than 10 cigarettes a day
  • 20mg - More than 10 cigarettes a day

Every e-liquid contains two main ingredients: vegetable glycerin (commonly called VG) and propylene glycol (usually stylised as PG). These ingredients combine to create a balanced liquid that can be atomised and vaped into the mouth or lungs.

High VG e-liquids make the e-liquid thicker and are ideal for direct-to-lung DTL vapers who love big, cloudy exhales. These are best used with sub-ohm coils and higher-wattage kits. A liquid with a higher VG ratio – for example, you may see a bottle with a label that reads 70VG/30PG – will produce thicker, denser vapour.

PG, on the other hand, helps enhance & intensify throat hit and flavour.

You’ll often see ratios like 50/50 VG/PG – a balanced mix perfect for most MTL (mouth-to-lung) devices, which best resemble the sensation of inhaling a cigarette.

Mixing standard e-liquid to make a wild, flavourful e-liquid concoction sounds like a great idea to almost all vapers! Here’s the bad news though – you can’t just pour one vape liquid bottle into another without checking.  If you do mix standard e-liquid you may risk creating a chemical imbalance in the e-liquid so it’s now irreversibly changed.

All e-liquids have an expiration date. You should always check the expiry date on the neck or underside of the e-liquid bottle. If the date is not listed on the plastic shell, you can try pulling back the front label on the bottle to reveal the expiry date beneath. Failing that you can look at the box the bottle came in.

It’s a general rule of thumb that no e-liquid should be vaped 2 years past the manufacturing date.

Don’t forget – proper storage is important too! Never leave your e-liquid in direct sunlight. Always store e-liquid in a cool, dry place.

Sometimes, e-liquid can change colour or lose flavour because it has either been improperly stored, the e-liquid has expired, or the e-liquid has oxidised. To preserve the original taste and appearance of your e-liquid, it’s best to store your e-liquids in a cool, dark that's shielded from sunlight. You should never vape an e-liquid that you suspect has chemically changed.

Almost all e-liquid UK bottles can be recycled. To check if your e-liquid bottle is recyclable, check for the PET plastic symbol on the label. Make sure you rinse out any leftover liquid inside the bottle before recycling!

But don’t forget – Freesmo’s huge range of e-juice has been curated to suit all vapers, so anyone looking to make the switch can enjoy a premium e-cig liquid that complements their vape kit. Whether you’re looking for a mouth-to-lung MTL or direct-to-lung DTL inhale, our e-liquid range has you covered!
