Public estimates rate vaping as much as 95% safer than smoking. The health effects of smoking are well know – cigarettes and tobacco can put you at risk for a seemingly endless list of serious health concerns, including numerous cancers & death!
But even still, some people can report feeling dizzy, sick, nauseous or drowsy after vaping. Why?
Well that’s why I’m here today to talk to you about the long term & short term health effects of vaping and how smokers who give up cigarettes and tobacco can come away feeling healthier on both accounts by switching to vaping.
Let’s start at the beginning – all e-liquid bottles & disposable vapes are filled with either nicotine salts or e-liquids. Vape liquid is almost always composed of three components, Propylene Glycol or PG, Vegetable Glycerine or VG, and nicotine.
PG is a common additive used to create a smoother inhalation experience, but it can sometimes cause throat irritation, especially in individuals sensitive to it. VG, on the other hand, is thicker and sweeter, contributing to the vapour’s density and texture. Nicotine, a stimulant, is the addictive element that triggers a release of adrenaline, increasing heart rate and blood pressure.
Fake devices and illegal e-liquid manufacturers may choose to include unregulated or harmful substances in their products. These illegal liquids can cause users to feel unwell. Impurities or toxic additives in unregulated vape liquids can lead to respiratory issues, nausea, and other symptoms. That’s why it's ultra-critical for users to only purchase from reputable brands so they can minimise putting their own health, as well as the health of their communities around them at risk!
Let’s jump in and compare the short term and long term effects of vaping:
These are just some of the questions that people ask us about vaping and health… but here’s the truth:
Reports of what can be referred to as “short-term” illnesses/sicknesses from vaping are either caused by serious & repetitive abuse (far exceeding the users typically weekly consumption) or the user has been using a fake or illegal vape device (and the liquid inside the device has caused the user to feel poorly).
For illegal vape manufacturers, it’s far safer to create fake disposable vapes with illegal e-liquid inside of them – this is because they’re popular, the user can’t see the liquid inside of them and because they can undercut legal sellers by selling them far cheaper because they cut corners on safety.
Relax! If you’re not feeling well you have a few options but before anything you should stop vaping. Sit down, drink some water, and take deep breaths if your heart is racing. Step outside for some fresh air and stop any physical activity you’re doing. These poor feelings usually pass within a few minutes.
To avoid feeling sick over and over again you should start with lower nicotine levels, avoid prolonged sessions, and again, check vape liquid ingredients and ensure it’s not an illegal device/e-liquid.

It’s hard to pinpoint exactly why so many people are averse to giving up smoking when vaping is reportedly so much better for you than tobacco – but ambivalent reports on social media, news channels and concerns about a lack of enough research are definitely a part of it.
These everyday concerns are frequently compounded by myths and misunderstandings. These have spread over time and have made vaping hostile in some people’s eyes. That’s why understanding and addressing these misconceptions is crucial for those considering making the switch to vaping.
For example; thousands of people still express concern over something called Popcorn Lung. This is a frequently misunderstood term that’s been unfairly linked to vaping. This originated from the Popcorn industry back in the early 2000s.
This term was coined when workers in a popcorn factory developed bronchiolitis obliterans in the early 2000s after inhaling the chemical diacetyl from the butter flavouring.
European vaping laws outlined by the Tobacco Products Directive (TPD) prohibit the use of diacetyl, an artificial flavouring, in vape liquids. But this regulation hasn’t stopped people from worrying that diacetyl could be added to their vape products.
Despite this, illegal vape companies can still choose to include this chemical. Vape companies that choose to operate outside of TPD regulations may choose to include diacetyl or other harmful chemicals in their products to cut costs. These illegal practices can cause untold health problems for consumers. This is why it's essential to ensure that you only purchase TPD-compliant e-liquids from reputable retailers.
When you choose certified and regulated products, you can be confident that they meet the safety standards set by European law, providing a safer vaping experience.
But here’s the good news – Freesmo is here to help keep your vaping experience safe and healthy. Knowing your vaping habits and preferences is crucial for avoiding potential health risks and finding the perfect products.
